"Ladies and gentlemen hold on to your wigs cause this bish is back."
And with that short post to social media Marika Hackman returned, bringing glorious synth-laden new track i'm not where you are with her. I'm guilty of (perhaps foolishly) only listening to Marika a little over the past few years, but I caught a really interesting panel on her music at The Great Escape in 2017, just ahead of the release of her last album I'm Not Your Man. Marika was joined by her producer Charlie Andrew (Alt-J, Sivu), Tim Dellow of Transgressive Records (management and publisher) and her radio plugger Claire Collins of Scream Productions. It was really interesting to hear from the various panellists about the various elements of the album campaign (particularly as I have a massive soft spot for Transgressive!)
In a press statement, Marika describes the new track as being "about breaking up with people, or self-sabotaging relationships, that feeling of not trusting ones emotions because you can't seem to get to the same place as the other person. On the surface it seems like an arrogant 'everybody falls in love with me' kind of song but its actually incredibly lonely, introspective and self deprecating."
