WATCH: Honey Moon - 'Stop And Listen'

Ahhhhh, relax. Honey Moon are back! Two years since their last new music (and their last feature here, more importantly?) they're back where they belong with ace new track Stop And Listen. Yep, it was love at first listen. Having gained fans from radio, blogs, live shows and a certain Elton John (name drop) they've been working hard gaining listeners and creating new music for us all... their debut album is in the works! For now, if you like what you hear below then get yourself to a streaming service and listen to Four More from... Honey Moon. So good. There's a little something magic in their music, properly feel-good tunes. The brass section on this one helps...!

On the track, the band share: "It's an upbeat stomper that tells the story of two people pulling in opposite directions throughout a fractious relationship. Born out of a period of negativity and frustration, writing and recording the song has been a cathartic process - one that has taken what was once a sensitive subject matter and bundled it into our own little sing-a-long anthem, all tied up with a soul-pop bow. On a thematic level, 'Stop and Listen' is for anyone who's been through troubles and disagreements with friends, struggles with anxiety, control and inward reflection, but it's also just for anyone who wants to dance!" 

Honey Moon headline London's The Lexington on 26th February (as a seven-piece!) before touring around the UK in April as a trio - tickets on sale now!

WATCH: Red Diesel - 'Feelitooelectricboogaloo'

Really digging this. New video and new artist for the blog alert... it's all going on today. Tuesday is the new Friday? Or something. Red Diesel, AKA singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Glenn Rawcliffe, who I'm familiar with as the drummer of Honey Moon (who I'm reaaaaally excited to find are recording their debut album at the moment!!) shared single Feelitooelectricboogaloo back in December. The track was self-produced and mixed by Louis Milburn (Fake Laugh, Italia 90) with all the recordings being completed in Glenn's bedroom (thanks to covid) - Glenn himself playing drums, bass, guitar, keys and vocals, and outsourcing sax to Lowri Heckler. 

A music video for the track dropped yesterday - very much a DIY project, it was mostly filmed in Glenn's flat, and most of the props for the video were built in it too. Including a mechanical horse, no less. On the video, Glenn explains: “the idea for the video kind of developed during the process of writing the song. It wasn’t an afterthought, but rather a visualisation of the deterioration of my mental state brought on by weeks of isolation during the first lockdown. I thought it would be amusing to illustrate my mild emotional breakdown by building a large fake horse around a tall bike, that I would later ride through the streets of South London. It seemed like the only rational thing to do.”

WATCH: Honey Moon - 'Magic'

In our hugely oversaturated internet age music videos can often be a pretty dull affair... London's Honey Moon have hit the jackpot with the video for their latest single Magic. The new cut sees the band encounter themselves in puppet form in an amusing marionette show. Think Thunderbirds if the brothers had quit international rescue and formed a band. The video doesn't take itself too seriously and it's a fun watch!

LISTEN: Honey Moon - 'Magic'

New Honey Moon - yes! Magic is their latest release through indie tastemakers Heist or Hit. With the crooning vocals of frontman Jack Slater Chandler and that trademark nostalgic sound it's another gloriously strong release from the London five-piece. Harmonies and strings elevate this one - it's something rather special!

Talking about the track, Jack describes that the band "wanted to explore the illusionary theme, to try and make something expansive and cinematic-sounding. 'Magic' represents the soul-mate style love we see in film, literature, Honey Moon songs - everywhere! What can seem like the most mundane, everyday elements of companionship are often the most important and overlooked. This sort of souped-up version of having 'one true love' is, whilst a nice idea, pretty difficult to imagine as anything that's realistically achievable, but there's something very real in the sentiment, and that's the 'spell', that's the illusion."

Surely the best possible set-up for a live session video? Those lovely crooners Honey Moon have shared a live performance of their recent single If I Could Only Dream. Since being sent their track (Why Do You Think You're So) Special? to review last year these guys have stolen my heart and I'm adoring this session and wanted to share! Catch the chaps live tomorrow evening in London opening for Trudy and the Romance at Oslo Hackney.

LISTEN: Honey Moon - 'If I Could Only Dream'

Having loved their Four More From... EP last year I was excited to see that Honey Moon are back with a new single and from the first jangly guitar notes you can't help but feel uplifted by this one, a crooning slice of retro-pop! After a busy few months of touring, If I Could Only Dream is their first release of the year, recorded with Alex Greaves at Leeds studio The Nave and released via Manchester label Heist or Hit. On the track, lead vocalist Jack Slater Chandler explains that it is "about change, transition and wishful thinking. It's about trying to right some wrongs. Sounds quite corny for someone in their mid-twenties but it was written during a cycle of change in my life that needed documenting in some way, and ended up in a sweet ditty. A sunny little pop song."

Following a headline show at London's Sebright Arms yesterday and a slot at today's Are You Listening? festival in Reading, they play the following shows soon:

21st May: Oslo, London (with Trudy and the Romance)
28th May: Crofters Rights, Bristol (with Trudy and the Romance)
8th June: Wharf Chambers, Leeds

LISTEN: Honey Moon - 'Yours, Girl'

After really enjoying their last single (Why Do You Think You're So) Special? I was pleased to find a new track from London 'croon-pop quartet' Honey Moon in my inbox last night. It's a beautiful early morning tune which, as lead vocalist Jack Slater Chandler explains, "shoots straight down the ballad barrel. The recording is intentionally quite clean and simple - no flashy production tricks, no crazy effects, just one single unadulterated slice of dreamy seaside pop. One for the lovers." 

The track comes alongside the announcement of the band's forthcoming EP Four More From... which is set for release by Heist or Hit on 21st September. The band are playing across the UK later this year, with an EP launch show at The Waiting Room in London on 27th September (it's a free gig!) followed by a support tour with label mates Her's across September and November.

WATCH: Honey Moon - '(Why Do You Think You're So) Special?'

After a busy week at work, I'm writing this having just trawled through a weeks worth of track/album submissions for the blog. From just over 90 emails, this new one from Londoner's Honey Moon was a major highlight! I haven't listened to the band before but was instantly drawn in by vocalist Jack's falsetto and those delicate guitars. It's entirely up my street - and the video has a dog in it, what's not to like?! Once you think you've got to grips with the song, the band surprise you with a brass outro. The track has a lot to give, and I'm looking forward to exploring more music from the guys!
